He adored "Pörtschach am Wörthersee", the little town that inspired him to compose his 2nd symphony, also called "Pörtschach Symphony". Vice versa In return, Pörtschach until today remembers its famous guest, who so much enjoyed spending his summers here in the 1870ies: the great composer and musician, Johannes Brahms.

Honoring the composer, the "International Johannes Brahms Competition" takes place for the 17th time this year in "Pörtschach am Wörthersee". Concentrating on the music of Brahms, young artists from all over the world meet for a friendly competition in the categories piano, violin, cello, viola, voice and chamber music, and transform the lake into a unique cultural happening.
